DEATH VALLEY ROAD TRIP FROM LAS VEGAS

Death Valley is one of those places you can do a day trip from Las Vegas or even Los Angeles. It only takes 2 hours to reach the park entrance from Las Vegas.

Best way to visit the valley is by hiring a car. Vegas has many car rental places and conveniently they are located in many hotels. We hired a car via Enterprise ($137 with comprehensive insurance) and picked it up from one of the hotels at 10am and then made our way to Death Valley. Just before reaching park entrance (about 20min before) there is a petrol station which is also the last opportunity to fill up full tank and buy some snacks as in the park you will find none.

Once you reach park entrance, you will need to buy National Park Pass ($30 private vehicle pass) and you can then freely drive around. We visited Zabriskie Point, then drove Artists Drive and lastly reached Badwater Basin which is the lowest point in Death Valley and also in the whole North America. It is also known as the hottest place on earth even reaching +57C. We then drove a little loop and exited the park via Shoshone exit. Overall we spent about 3 hours in the park. Unfortunately, our car started to “break down” so we decided to drive out of Death Valley as there is no signal and network coverage (something to bear in mind). Luckily, our rental car fully broke down about 30min out of Death Valley where we had signal to call Road Side Assistance. Enterprise dealt with the situation well, refunding what it cost us to hire a car.
