AN ULTIMATE GUIDE TO NEW YORK CITY

Updated: Aug 26

We all know New York City. It is featured in so many movies that everyone has a perception of the city. I remember first time I travelled to New York City with my mum in the summer of 2016. We spend the whole week there and since then I have returned to the city many times with work. In this guide you will find a 3 day itinerary of the NYC featuring the famous sights as well as some ‘hidden gems’. After having seen all famous sights I mostly enjoy spending time in Dumbo or relaxing in Central Park as well as just walk with a morning coffee through busy streets Manhattan.

  • Why New York? Great city break. Iconic city from many movies.

  • Top Things to see - Brooklyn Bridge, Dumbo, Ground Zero, Financial District, Wall Street, Central Park, Time Square, Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Grand Central Station, Intrepid Museum, The Plaza Hotel, Hudson Yards.

  • Best time to visit - All year round.

  • Safety - Moderately safe.

  • Costs - Expensive.

Getting around NYC is very easy. City is walkable and the best way to explore it is by foot. Subway is also very easy to use - you can use a payment card and single ride is USD 2.90.

Must see tourist sites in New York City:

  • Central Park (I recommend cycling the park)

  • The Plaza Hotel

  • Rockefeller Center and Top of The Rock

  • Empire State Building

  • Crysler Building

  • NYC Public Library

  • Washington Square Arch

  • Times Square and Broadway

  • St. Patricks Cathedral

  • Grand Central Station

  • Crossing Brooklyn Bridge

  • Ground Zero and 9/11 museum

  • Wall Street

  • 5th Avenue and Park Avenue

  • Tribeca and Little Italy

  • Brooklyn and Dumbo

Here are the things I love to do whilst being in NYC that are maybe not your traditional tourist attractions:

  • Try USD1.50 New York style pizza slice. It is seriously delicious and cheap!

  • Go on a commuter ferry to see NYC from Hudson River. There are various routes you can take, for example 34th Pier in Manhattan to Dumbo. Ticket costs $4 one way. You can view the routes and schedule on their website. They run about every 30 min and is a much cheaper way to see Manhattan from the river than tourist ferries.

  • Once arriving in Brooklyn, explore Time Out Market and go up the stairs - there is a park that opens amazing views to Manhattan. It is also completely free. Afterwards, cross the Brooklyn Bridge back to Manhattan.

  • Take Staten Island Ferry that leaves from the Wall Street is free of charge and opens views to the Statue of Liberty. Ferry runs every 30 min and takes about half an hour. You can then quickly get get off the ferry and jump on the return ferry so the total journey will take 1 hour.

  • Walk to Hudson Yards and walk The High Line which is old railways tracks above streets of Manhattan.

  • Visit Intrepid museum that hosts fighter jets, Concorde and submarine just a few minutes away from the Hudson Yards and The High Line.
