A DAY IN PARIS - 24 HOUR ITINERARY

Updated: Aug 26

I have visited Paris 3 times and every time I have fallen in love with this beautiful city more and more. Everyone knows that Paris is romantic, paradise for food and art lovers. If you only can spend a day in Paris I have a perfect itinerary for you.

  • Why Paris? For romantic weekend away. Architecture, cuisine and long walks along the river.

  • Top Things to see - Eiffel Tower, Avenues des Champs-Elysees, Arc de Triomphe, Centre Pompidou, Louvre, Notre Dame, Luxembourg Garden.

  • Best time to visit - Summer for the weather, but good all year round

  • Safety - Moderately safe.

  • Costs - I would say quite expensive.

I live in London and a day trip to Paris is so easy. There are many flights from London Heathrow or you can also opt for Eurostar that takes 2 hours from Kings Cross and you will arrive at the heard of Paris. If you can, spend a night in Paris and enjoy 2 or 3 days, but Paris is also always a good idea for a day.

  • Start the day by taking metro to ‘Arc de Triomphe’ and walk ‘Avenues des Champs-Elysees’ towards Grand Palace. It is a beautiful walk and has many shops and cafes. In about an hour you will arrive at ‘Louvre Museum’. If you are an art lover, of course you can spend hours there, but as we are planning to see many things in a day, I recommend spending an hour in the museum - having a sneak peak to the famous Mona Lisa painting and continuing the journey to a nice French Bakery for a croissant, orange juice and a coffee. There are so many to chose from and they all serve delicious pastries, so pick whichever speaks to your heart.

  • Afterwards, head to ‘Centre Pompidou’, which is contemporary art centre and probably my favourite museum I have ever visited. I recommend spending an hour or two there and admiring street art near by of famous Salvador Dali.

  • Take a stroll along the River Seine and cross over one of the bridges to the island which hosts ‘Notre Dame Cathedral’ and ‘Sainte Chapele’.

  • Then continue your walk towards ‘Pantheon' and pick up a baguette and snacks for your picnic lunch in the ‘Luxembourg Garden’.

  • Take green metro line from nearby ‘Notre-Dame-des-Champs’ station to ‘Montmartre' that will take 30min and enjoy this art district and see famous ‘Moulin Rouge’ and ‘Sacre-Coeur Basilica’.

  • Optionally, you can also visit the modern district of ‘La Defense’ or head back and take a river cruise through Seine.

  • And lastly, the highlight of your day in Paris will be visit to ‘Eiffel' tower. I highly recommend taking a lift up to see 360 degree views of Paris and afterwards enjoy the light show that starts after the sunset every hour from one of the many French restaurants nearby enjoying delicious dinner and wine.
